Phytochemical Analysis of Symphytum officinale Root Culture Extract

Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) root preparations are known for their analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. In this study, the phenolic profile of extract samples Symphytum officinale callus cultures (up to 70% ethanol) was determined using various approaches. For first time, a unique polymer two types isolated from comfrey (the caffeic acid derivative is new class natural polyether with 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl) glyceric as repeating unit). M-methoxybenzoic (30.05 μg/mL extract) or rosmarinic (45.70 μL/mL were identified main component. Rosmarinic, chlorogenic, acids have anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, antitumor, neuroprotective, antioxidant, other properties, which also determine characteristics made it. The studied analysis published data showed that had similar characteristics, makes them an important source compounds pronounced antioxidant activity.
